you have what it takes
With heaps of positivity and an inclusive attitude, the “You Have What It Takes” campaign welcomed everyone into the world of gaming. Taking a page from a locker room pump up speech, we empowered everyone to come play because everyone has what it takes to play on Stadia, literally and figuratively.
Figuratively, you’ve got the heart, the grit, and the attitude to take on some of the world’s biggest AAA games. And if you have an old laptop, a phone, a rival platform controller, or any kind of screen, you have some of the literal stuff it takes to stream Stadia.
By the fall of 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic was still in some of its worst throes. It quickly became clear to us that having any kind of set and filming in person was not a safe option. To make this spot, we watched virtually as our cast filmed themselves. The rest of the production was entirely remote as well.

you means everyone
My favorite part of this campaign was our casting process. From some of the other gaming projects we’d worked on, we knew that it is really hard to act like you’re playing a game (and make it look realistic) unless you are a gamer in real life.
With that in mind, for this round we cast a wide net all across the entire United States looking for actors who were also seasoned gamers. What resulted was an awesome cast of people from different backgrounds who all loved gaming.
From a group of roommates in Virginia, to some new parents in Silver Lake, to a professional skate boarder who sent in her audition from the middle of the woods, we filled the campaign with people who reflected the modern landscape of gaming fans.
While the exciting gameplay in the commercial draws you in and keeps your attention, it’s the people that make it feel welcoming and authentic.
